Community Relations

Our Community Relations Philosophy

EMBARQ is committed to improving the quality of life for the local communities we serve. We facilitate practical educational and environmental solutions in partnership with organizations by offering financial, technological and volunteer resources.

  • Financial: We make a multi-million dollar commitment throughout our local territories to support the well-being of organizations that we have proactively identified as being key to our communities' success, particularly in the area of education.
  • Technology: We donate practical telecommunications products and services to enhance the ways in which our partnering organizations communicate. This includes providing phone, Internet and television solutions that facilitate learning, help people stay connected, and enhance productivity within these organizations.
  • Volunteerism: EMBARQ has over 100 Community Relations Teams in our 18-state territories that are a driving force in identifying and supporting community needs that truly make a difference. Individually, many EMBARQ employees volunteer their own time to organizations about which they are passionate. Whether it's through a team approach or on a one-to-one basis, EMBARQ employees give their time generously to make their communities better places to live.

Areas of Focus

EMBARQ's community relations initiatives facilitate practical educational and environmental solutions that improve the quality of life for our local communities:

National Education Initiative

We support initiatives in K-12 and higher education that help our youth become better students and leaders. Additionally, in 2008 and beyond, we will focus on providing quality technology learning experiences for our future workforce.

  • As part of this commitment, we have launched eight EMBARQ™ Technology & Innovation Centers for Boys & Girls Clubs in various markets (Las Vegas, Louisburg, N.C., Ft. Myers, Fla., Ocala, Fla., Johnson City, Tn., Jefferson City, Mo., Franklin, Ind., and Plymouth, Ind.). EMBARQ has provided new computer hardware equipment, educational software and innovative EMBARQ™ products and services, including EMBARQ™ High-Speed Internet, to the centers. Environment

At EMBARQ, we view our company and our employees as active citizens of the communities we serve and we’re working to help conserve resources and minimize the waste we produce. For decades, we’ve used our technology and resources to better the communities we call home – and we’re bringing that same innovative spirit to protecting the environment. In addition to striving to comply with all federal, state and local environmental laws, orders and ordinances, we’re focusing our efforts in three key areas – reducing our emissions through improved energy efficiency; striving to reduce overall waste; and we’re committed to partnering with our suppliers to support these areas. These efforts are good for the environment and they just make sense for our customers, our stakeholders and our employees.

  • As part of our overall environmental framework, EMBARQ has created a cross-functional environmental task force to manage impacts and explore opportunities in three areas: Energy, Waste, and Supply Chain. The task force is assessing current activities, identifying areas of improvement and developing programs, policies, and metrics where appropriate. The task force meets at least quarterly to assess the progress of major programs, review key environmental metrics, and report progress to the senior lead team

Quality of life

Beyond education and the environment, EMBARQ is actively engaged in initiatives that support the overall quality of life in our local communities, including:

  • Chambers of Commerce
  • United Way
  • Membership and leadership on numerous non-profit boards of directors
  • Employee matching gifts program that benefits K-12 and higher educational institutions, arts and cultural organizations, youth development organizations, and environmental organizations
